1934-35 Nicolae Bălcescu 7-9
Jean MONDA proiectează pe bulevardul Nicolae Bălcescu (atunci Ion C. Brătianu, exact lângă biserica Enei) un ansamblu de locuinţe cu zece etaje, cel mai mare din portofoliul arhitectului. Organizat în jurul unei incinte, o curte de onoare amplă, ansamblul cu trei scări este marcat de verticalele ferestrelor scărilor şi cei cinci pilaştri epuraţi angajaţi, înalţi de şase etaje, ai faţadei retrase de la stradă. Verticalitatea acestor elemente este temperată cu parapeţii balcoanelor, ‘subţiaţi’ prin inegrarea unor fante orizontale în designul acestora. În proiect parapeţii balcoanelor de la primul etaj erau uniţi în dreptul alveolei de o traversă de aceeşi dimensiune cu parapeţii, formând astfel un portal la intrarea în curtea de onoare. Acest detaliu s-a pierdut însă pe drumul dintre planşetă şi şantier.
Jean MONDA designs on Nicolae Bălcescu Boulevard (back then Ion C. Brătianu Boulevard, right next to Ene Church) a ten-story residential ensemble, the largest in the architect’s portfolio. Organized around a courtyard, an ample court-of-honor, the three-staircase ensemble is marked by the vertical lines of the staircases and the five cleansed attached pilasters, that span over six floors on the façade set back from the street. The verticality of these elements is balanced by the balcony parapets, ‘thinned’ by the integration of horizontal slits within their design. In the initial design the parapets of the first floor balconies were united in front of the courtyard by a girder, the same size as the parapets themselves, thusly creating a portal towards the court-of-honor. However, this detail was lost somewhere between the drawing board and the building process.
